Neighborhood

The Maison Sato apartment, unit No. 403, is located in in the Hiyoshi district of Kohoku Ward, Yokohama. The building sits on a quiet one-lane street in a residential neighborhood.

At the end of the street is a huge wall where on top lie the rails for the Tokyu-Toyoko Line and the rails for the Shinkansen bullet train. Although a mere 70 meters away, both commuter lines pass by the area rather quickly and quietly.

Down the street in the opposite direction, there is a small laundromat, which is great if you need to wash something bulky like a blanket, or something that is overtly soiled like a baseball jersey.

Further down the street at the first intersection is a small park where young children can enjoy playground equipment and where young mothers tend to gather on sunny weekday mornings to chat and gossip with other mothers.

Across from the playground is a My Basket discount mini-supermarket. The My Basket brand of mini-supermarkets are stocked with fresh food, fruit, vegetables, and all of the basic ingredients you can find at a larger retail outlet. They also sell bento boxed meals, drinks, juices, dairy products, snacks, and alcoholic drinks. My Basket stores are more convenient than a convenience store, and considerably cheaper as well. This particular store is open at 8:00 a.m. and closes at midnight 7 days a week.

Access

The primary access to public transportation is Hiyoshi Station on the Tokyu-Toyoko Line. It is only a six-minute walk from the apartment to the ticket gates of the station.

The area around the station is chock-full of eateries, bars, restaurants, fast-food joints, drug stores, clinics, and many other shops of which there are too many to mention. You can spend hours walking around the neighborhood and visit various shops and still not visit all that the area has to offer!

If you leave the apartment and head in the direction opposite of the train station and crowded shopping avenues, you will come across the Yakami-gawa River, which is one of major tributaries to the Tsurumi River. The river is line with concrete, so there is very little greenery to enjoy. But the paved footpaths that run along both sides of the river allow for a nice break for long walks, jogging, or bicycling.

When commuting to work, school, or when heading out for a day trip, the Hiyoshi Station has a lot to offer. This station is the terminal station of the Yokohama Municipal Green Line subway, and is also a stop on the Tokyu-Toyoko Line and the Tokyu-Meguro Line.

Information on the Tokyu Lines, route information, station information, and sightseeing spots can be found in English at this link:

Maison Sato Apartment Building
Rent Life manages 3 apartments in this building:
R-Life Hiyoshi 401, 403, and 405.

Name plate on the wall right outside the apartment entrance door. The doorbell includes a video camera so that you can see who is ringing you without having to actually go to the door to see who it is.

Our weekly/monthly short-term rentals include all of the basics: new bed and mattress, desk chair, desk, LCD panel TV, small stand, microwave oven, electric kettle, curtains, air conditioner, ceiling light and more.

Since you cannot make holes on the wall to hang photos or a calendar, this apartment includes a railing over the bed with hooks where such items can be hung. In this photo, you can also see on the wall on the left the video monitor that is connected to the camera with the doorbell outside the front door.

This apartment includes a large closet, which is more than sufficient for a short-term stay, and includes enough space for storing a large suitcase or two smaller suitcases.

The kitchenette includes an electric stovetop and which sits right above the mini-fridge. A kitchen fan is mounted to the ceiling directly above the stovetop to help minimize smoke and odors from cooking.

On and Off switches on the face between the stovetop and fridge control the small stove light and kitchen fan.

The bathroom sink is mounted over the lower half of the tub. The upper portion of the tub can be used for showers. This combination of a sink-tub-toilet is referred to as a unit bath in Japan.

Despite the configuration of this unit bath, you can still use the bath for soaking and relaxing.

The brown object on the left is actually a cover for the bathroom light.

The entrance door includes a box where the utility service providers will put your meter readings. As is standard in Japan, you take your shoes off just inside the door and keep your shoes there.

For privacy, there is an accordion curtain the folds out to separate the kitchen space and access to the bath for either drying off or removing clothing prior to taking a bath.

During summer or winter, this same accordion curtain can be closed to help reduce heating and cooling costs, and to help speed up cooling or heating of the primary living space.

The furniture, appliances, and large LCD panel are all brand new.

The room includes a microwave oven and an electric kettle.

The bed sits just high enough up from the floor, which allows tenants to use space under the bed for storage of items that can be collapsed, like a large duffel bag and such.

The air conditioner includes 3 primary operations: heating, cooling, and dehumidifying.

Direction of air flow, amount of airflow, temperature, etc. can all be controlled with the remote control.
