Word of Mouth

The word of mouth can be a powerful tool when used for nefarious purposes, but also very positive and practical purposes.

Word of mouth (口コミ) has been a major tool for businesses to promote their brand. Not all customers have a positive experience when interacting with the staff, services, or products of a business, however.

In my personal interactions with clients from overseas, I often replay in my mind the various interactions we had that day. 

Did I dress well? 
Did I make a good impression?
Was I articulate and kmowledgable?
Was I helpful?
Was I overbearing?
Was I sufficiently sociable?
Did I say anything negative that would reflect on me, my company, Japan, our industry, or other clients?

When dealing with on-Japanese clients, there tends to be gray area where I am not sure if my interaction wth them is business-casual or fellow-foreigner-friendly.

I want to gain there trust and help them to understand that I am solely looking out for their needs. If the customer is fully pleased with our service and support, it could have a lasting impact on our business success years down the road.

A former client who was having difficulties at his apartment went through me several times to address some issues. In the end we were able to facilitate a positive outcome , but I was worried that he might blame Rent Life for the problems whereas the property manager was not as responsive as they could have been.

Today, I received a new inquiry from that very client whom I thought did not appreciate or understand how we were able to assist him. Not only was I relieved to have received such a recommendation, but overjoyed that it was a positive recommendation! 

It's on days like this that I feel very fortunate to be in this job!
